The property for our new home presented many site challenges with a multitude of elevation changes. Miller Creek Lawn and Landscaping transformed those challenges into opportunities creating a gorgeous one-of-a-kind setting. Miller Creek truly exceeded our expectations.

Miller Creek began by meticulously prepping the site with all the proper foundation work necessary for the hardscaping, retaining walls, gardens, lawn and erosion control. In our previous experience with other landscapers, all too often the critical prep work was overlooked or inadequate. Exacting prep work, however, is the vital foundation from which everything else is built upon. Miller Creek takes no shortcuts and understands that proper “below ground work” insures a long lasting “above ground” landscape.

The trees, shrubs, perennials and all the other quality plantings from the Miller Creek Garden Center add beautiful color and texture to the yard year round. The boulder retaining walls address the elevation changes and are an excellent backdrop to the foliage. The driveway cobble stones and stone walkways add character and the fire pit and patio are great gathering places. It’s very welcoming and makes you feel at home. And that’s really what it’s all about….

Troy came out to our home to help us plan the waterfall and pond feature that seemed to be missing when we looked out over our lawn. He thoroughly interviewed us as to what we envisioned the landscape to look like when the project was completed. We understood completely what they project would entail design work, excavation, coordination with subcontractors and the utility departments, creation of the waterfalls and pond, tree, shrubbery and flower plantings, and the installation of the patio adjacent to the pond. When the crew would leave for the day, they would carefully clean up. We were given specific instructions as to how to care for the trees and plantings.

and Landscape did a magnificent job with the design and implementation of the landscaping for our new home in Duluth, working closely with the two of us, David Salmela, our architect, and Jennifer Kampf, a landscaping consultant and colleague of Troy’s. Work preparing our property began in early August of 2011, and was done with a singular dedication to meeting a short timetable, together with a high degree of innovation and skill. The scope of the landscaping done for us has included the following: The placement of Blue Grass Sod bordered by Aqua Antique Stone on the South Side of our House below a Blue Stone Terrace; Karl Forester Feather Reed Grasses bordering the deck on the north and south sides of the house;Native Little Bluestem Grasses throughout the rest of the property to the north, south, east and west; 3 Mountain Ash Trees on the southwest side, behind Miscanthus Flames grasses (There were older Mountain Ash Trees on the NE and SE corners of the property.); and 2 Serviceberry shrubs on the east side, behind Miscanthus Flame grasses. Miller Creek also installed an Irrigation System described as follows: Rainbird #5004 Rotor Heads, Rainbird 1” Electric Zones/Valves w/In Ground Zone/Valve Boxes, Hands Free Multi –Zone Outdoor/Indoor Computer Controlled w/ Battery Backup. Water Supply 1.25’-100psi pipe and after valves 1”-100psi supply to heads Rain Sensor. This has been well maintained by Miller Creek, and their recommendation to install this system is one for which we are grateful. Our continued work and relationship with Troy and Miller Creek has been exceptional, with a prompt response to all issues, ongoing lawn and maintenance services and their care and commitment to assure the healthy and successful evolution of the landscape design. As we were building our home we knew that landscaping would play an integral part in the overall beauty and enjoyment of our outdoor space. Miller Creek was recommended by our builder as a company that would provide the total package, in a very professional manner. We interviewed Troy and were impressed with his knowledge, his willingness to listen and take into account our desires and thoughts. He developed a comprehensive plan for our landscape for discussion and review. As a result of the front-end work and proposal that Troy and his team developed, we were quickly ready to move forward.  

 

As we are situated at the bottom of the hill, drainage was a concern that was addressed through “French” drains, a retaining wall and appropriate topsoil placement and sloping. The project evolved from installation of the initial drainage focus to installation of a paver patio with pond and waterfall, driveway, retaining wall and sidewalk. Additionally, we utilized stones from old retaining walls on the property in building a dry stack retaining wall, accents around the pond and walking paths. A variety of plantings were included in the plan with the potential to move forward with more in the future.

 

The Miller Creek crew did a professional job and was hardworking. We will use Miller Creek for our future landscaping plans.

that we decided to use Miller Creek Landscaping to do our project of a beautiful brick patio and landscaping in our yard. From the first time Troy came to our house to talk about options until the last day of the project when he came to inspect the work, we felt extremely comfortable with him and his crew. They were very professional. What we appreciated so much was that when he said the crew would be here, they were here. We had a few rainy days during the installation of the patio, so in order to finish the project in time, for a scheduled party we had planned; they stayed late to get the job done.
The patio was exactly how we envisioned it and will give us many hours of enjoyment. During the week of June 20^th, the water was flowing through our new patio like a waterfall. I called Troy and he was out immediately to scope it out. Some of our new sod had to be rolled up to act as sandbags to divert water, which he did and yesterday a crew was back to lay the sod back in place.

Just like a story, there are two sides to every house-the inside and the outside. When we purchased our home nine years ago, it was in need of a major renovation. We had a clear vision for the inside and knew exactly what we wanted to accomplish: from colors, to flooring, to the overall look and feel.
